Memorial Day gives everyone a chance to think about the Veterans who gave up so much for our country. It’s an important time to come together to celebrate with friends, family, and strangers. The Delaware beaches are a great place to spend a long weekend for Memorial Day. This weekend at the beach is a symbol the summer is right around the corner. The weather is starting to heat up, and school is going to be out in a few weeks. The Delaware beaches have events, specials, and activities planned for the weekend for everyone to enjoy. Check out a few below!
Saturday, May 28th
If you can give up sleeping in for the day, then you need to head to the Seaside Nature Center. This nature filled activity will give participants a new perspective when thinking about the water and sea creatures at the shore. Parents and children will be collecting fish and crabs with a beach seine net. The findings in the nets will show what animals are using the Delaware Bay as a nursery. Be advised: dress to get wet, and don’t wear flip flops! This activity is for ages 5 and older with a paying adult. Tickets are $5.
Horseshoe Crab & Shorebird Festival
Saturday, May 28th
If you’re in Rehoboth for Memorial Day weekend spend the day at the Horseshoe Crab & Shorebird Festival. There will be games, music, food, canoe rides, and arts and crafts for all ages from 10:00am until 4:00pm. Plenty of the activities at the Festival are free so you can spend all day there. To make it easier on parking, they’re running a shuttle between town and the refuge.
Sunday, May 29th
Take some time on Sunday morning to learn about the bottlenose dolphins. They come back to our shores every spring, and you can learn why at Dolphin Watch. Guides will take participants along the shore to search for these dolphins. This activity is for ages 5 and older with a paying adult. Tickets are $2.
